The number of jobs for nannies has been on the rise in Australia over the past two years, with the number of paid roles on the job rising by more than 12 per cent over the same period.
The number of roles advertised on jobs site PayPerClick.com is on the increase.
A spokesperson for PayPerclick said the company was also seeing more women enter the nanny industry, with more women in the workforce than men.
“In 2015 we saw a 15 per cent increase in nanny roles posted to the site and we’re seeing the same thing this year, with a 16 per cent rise,” she said.
“Women are making up half of all paid positions for nanny work in Australia.”
Women are also being paid more than men for their roles.
Women make up about 25 per cent of all the nannys in Australia and account for almost 40 per cent and a third of the positions on PayPerView, according to the company.
“There are currently over 10 million nannying jobs in Australia, and we believe there’s an opportunity for more women to be employed in these jobs,” PayPer click’s chief executive, Stephanie Taylor, said.
Nanny roles are a key part of many family members’ careers, particularly for the elderly, disabled and people with mental health issues.
“If you’re in a nursing home or in a family home, a lot of the family will want to be on their feet, they need to be able to move around a lot, so there are lots of other things that they want to do,” Ms Taylor said.
A spokeswoman for Payperclick said they were seeing more nannied roles posted in Australia than ever before.
“Nannies are an important part of the lives of people who are in nursing homes or family homes.
Nannies provide support to the nursing home residents, as well as help the resident get through their day-to-day tasks,” the spokesperson said.
In a similar way, a survey by PayPerview found that women in nursing and home care were overrepresented in the roles advertised online, with 35 per cent reporting they had worked in a role advertised on Pay PerClick.
“This is because of the fact that women are overrepresented amongst those who are applying for positions in nursing care,” Ms Turner said.
The majority of the jobs posted on PayperView.com are for people aged under 40, but there are also a few roles for people over the age of 50.
“It is not uncommon for a woman to be working in a position advertised on the site, for example in a home care or childcare position, so this can have a significant impact on the female worker’s income,” Ms Walker said.
Nanny job seekers have the option to earn as much as $130,000 on the sites site Pay Per Click and Pay PerView.
Ms Walker advised those looking to work as nannie to make sure they are on the latest version of Pay Per click and Pay per view.
“They need to ensure they have a secure payment account and the latest Pay Per view and PayPer view client software, and also pay attention to security measures,” she explained.
“It is very important to ensure you are using an online payment account, and that you are not using PayPer.com’s software to send your payment, as it could potentially lead to your account being flagged as fraudulent.”
Ms Walker said it was important for women to check their credit reports before they went into a nursing job.
“This will be an important thing to remember if you’re considering a job as a nanny,” she advised.
