This is the first of several stories we’ll look at today, looking at some of the best paid jobs in the NFL, where the pay is more than double that of the average NFL player.
The average NFL salary is $9.3 million, and some of these salaries are higher than $10 million, but this is a rough estimate of what some of those players earn.
For example, offensive lineman J.J. Watt is paid about $6.5 million annually.
In fact, Watt was paid $8.4 million by the San Diego Chargers last season.
The NFL’s best paid player is tight end Rob Gronkowski, who makes $8 million.
The second-best-paid player is running back LeSean McCoy, who made $8 to $9 million annually by the Bills last season, and the fourth-best is wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who earned $9 to $10.5 billion by the Patriots last season in a contract that has a $72 million guaranteed.
The second-highest paid NFL player is quarterback Drew Brees, who is paid $12 million a year by the Saints, and is second-most expensive to a player on a rookie contract in NFL history behind Brett Favre’s $16.2 million contract with the Packers in 2009.
Brees had surgery on his right knee last year and missed most of the season.
He has a three-year, $43 million contract that expires in 2021, which is one of the longest deals in the league.
He is the highest-paid quarterback in the game, but he only signed the deal in 2015.
